Possible Health Where: Achham and Dolakha districts, Nepal Partner since: 2015 (current agreement runs until 2017) Current level of engagement (April 2016): high www.possiblehealth.org
ABOUT: Possible, a nonprofit healthcare company, has built Nepal’s most unique and fastest-growing public–private partnership in Achham District, the third poorest district in the country and has just expanded to Dolakha district, one of the worst hit by the 2015 earthquakes. Possible has developed a “durable healthcare” model to deliver high-quality, low-cost healthcare through a hub-and-spoke healthcare unit within the government’s existing hospitals and health centers and by developing a strong community health program.
NEED: Nepal has some of the most progressive healthcare policies in the world. The constitution guarantees the right to health and universal healthcare for the poor. But executing these policies remains a challenge in most rural areas, and millions don’t get the care they need from the traditional private, public, and philanthropic approaches to healthcare. Patients needed a new model that enables a nonprofit healthcare company to be paid by the government to deliver healthcare within the government’s infrastructure.
WHAT WE DO: In 2015 Firetree agreed to fund Possible’s operations for a 3-year period and the renovation of the Bayalpata hospital. In addition, we are actively engaged in supporting the expansion of Possible Health in an effective and strategic way by providing additional funding, as well as strategic support as required.
