M'Lop Tapang Where: Sihanoukville, Cambodia Partner since: 2012 (current agreement runs until 2018) Current level of engagement (April 2016)t: low www.mloptapang.org
ABOUT: M’Lop Tapang has strived to provide a safe haven for the children of Sihanoukville by offering support to any child at risk since 2003. MT offers access to education, reintegration with families, life-skills training and creative and recreational activities, while ensuring protection from all forms of abuse. MT is increasingly focusing on the creation of viable job training, employment and entrepreneurship programs for young people and their caregivers.
NEED: Due to the expansion of slums in Sihanoukville, the number of marginalized children and youth with no education, who are exposed to danger, abuse, drug addiction and therefore isolation, is increasing. Additionally, the lack of income-generating opportunities, job and entrepreneurship skills result in the young women and men not being able to break away from the cycle of poverty that put them at risk in the first place.
WHAT WE DO: Firetree has supported MT since 2012 and one of our directors is among the co-founders of the organization. Our long-term partnership focuses on ensuring that MT can rapidly adapt its strategy to the the socio-economic needs of the most marginalized families in Sihanoukville in order to continue providing excellent quality of services to children, youth and their caregivers.
